Three 6 Mafia’s Ricky ‘Lord Infamous’ Dunigan dies of heart attack at 40, Ricky "Lord Infamous" Dunigan died at the age of 40 Friday night, reports Rolling Stone.
The founding member of the rap group Three 6 Mafia reportedly passed away from a heart attack while he was sleeping at his mother's home.
"He was at home sitting at the table and he just lay his head down and he just left us," Dunigan's bandmate and uncle DJ Paul told the mag.
Paul told MTV News that Dunigan indicated to his girlfriend that he wanted to sleep. After she asked if he would be OK and he said he would, she left him to rest.
"His mother found him dead this morning. He had been dead, the doctors say, for about five hours," he described. While an official cause of death has yet to be revealed, Paul told MTV News that he believed it was due to Dunigan's heart condition.
This isn't the first time the rapper has dealt with health problems. In 2010 he reportedly suffered a stroke and heart attack and Paul indicated, "We don't know yet (if the two incidents were related)."
The Memphis rapper first hit the music scene in the early '90s when he formed Three 6 Mafia with Juicy J. Four years later the group released their debut album "Mystic Stylez." But they were best known for their featured song "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" in the movie "Hustle and Flow." That track garnered them an Oscar for Best Original Song, a first for a rap group.
"Thank you for your prayers," tweeted Juicy J. "I'm very hurt. Can't believe it's true."
"He was a legend in the game, truly ahead of his time," Paul said to Rolling Stone. "He was such a great lyricist and he always came with these different styles in his rap and his flow."
He added, "Lord Infamous was the kind of person that never cared about having a lot of money or this or that. He just liked to make music, he liked to rap, and he liked to make people happy."
