The 60-year-old Chinese woman gave birth to twins after her daughter passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning. Faced with an unbearable feeling of loneliness, Hailin hatched the idea of becoming a mother again.

To survive and free myself of the loneliness, I decided to have another child in my old age," the woman said.
A Chinese military hospital agreed to help the woman despite the IVF procedure posing a high risk pregnancy for the woman considering her advanced age. Typically, the failure rate goes up the older the woman is, but luckily, Sheng became a mother to Zhizhi, who weighed 4.1 pounds and Huihui, who weighed 3.2 pounds on May 25, 2010.

At 60, with twins, the Chinese woman became the oldest woman in the country to give birth. And despite China's one-child policy in place, it's a wonder she was allowed to get two for the price of one, so to speak.

Trivia : According to the Guinness Book of Records, Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, of Spain, 66 years and 358 days in 2006, delivered twin boys by C-section. At the time, she became the oldest woman in the world to give birth anywhere. Sadly, she passed away from cancer 2009.

Three years after the miracle birth, Hailin, a retired medical worker, is back at work, struggling to care for her children. Although she and her husband earn decent pensions, retirement funds are not enough to feed two extra mouths. However, she gets by giving lectures on various health topics.

Being 60 with twins is a medical miracle and for one woman, life goes on despite a experiencing a dark and unthinkable moment of personal loss.
