Nets star Lopez faces season end with broken foot, Brooklyn Nets star center Brook Lopez has been diagnosed with a broken bone in his right foot, the club announced Saturday, and could be lost for the remainder of the NBA season.
Nets scoring leader Lopez suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot in a 121-120 over-time loss at Philadelphia on Friday.
The 7-footer suffered the same injury during the 2011-2012 campaign and missed 32 games. He also underwent surgery after last season to replace a bent screw in his right foot.
The Nets said they will consult with doctors next week and update Lopez's condition, although the New York Daily News reported Lopez would miss the rest of the Nets' season.
In 17 games this season, Lopez has averaged a team-best 20.7 points and 6.0 rebounds while making 56.3 percent of his shots from the floor.
With Lopez in the lineup, the Nets are 7-10. Without him, Brooklyn has only managed a 2-7 showing.
First-year Nets coach Jason Kidd decided earlier this month to run the team's attack through the big man and Brooklyn responded by winning four of the next five games.
But that move came only after injuries knocked playmakers Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry, and Andrei Kirilenko out of the Nets lineup.
