Deputy fatally shot, A review has cleared a Lauderdale County deputy of wrongdoing in a shooting that left a man dead in August.
Officials say grand jurors ruled that Sgt. Joe Hamilton acted properly in the confrontation that killed 31-year-old Mitchell Keith Campbell in Florence.
Reports say the case was presented during a grand jury session that ended Friday.
Campbell was shot to death outside his home on Aug. 10. The shooting happened after Hamilton and other officers went to a residence on a disturbance call.
Authorities say the man picked up a .22-caliber rifle and pointed it at a deputy, prompting Hamilton to open fire.
The officer is being returned to regular duty with the decision. He has been on administrative leave during the review.
